Eggs are a staple ingredient in many recipes, particularly in baking. However, running out of them during cooking is not the end of the world. There are plenty of ingredients that can effectively replace eggs without compromising the quality of your dish. Here’s what you can use as substitutes depending on the recipe:

For Cakes and Cupcakes

  • Mashed Banana: Use half of a medium banana as a substitute for one egg.
  • Applesauce: Replace one egg with 4 tablespoons of unsweetened applesauce.
  • Silken Tofu: Use 4 tablespoons of blended silken tofu for a similar binding effect.
  • Yogurt: 4 tablespoons of plain yogurt also work well in baked goods.

For Cookies

  • Flaxseed Meal: Mix 1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed with 3 tablespoons of water. Let it sit for a few minutes to thicken and replace one egg.
  • Condensed Milk: Substitute 4 tablespoons of condensed milk for each egg. Many bakers claim this results in even tastier cookies.

For Pancakes

  • Oatmeal: Combine 2 tablespoons of rolled oats soaked in warm water to replace one egg.
  • Baking Soda and Acid: Mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda with 1 tablespoon of sour cream, kefir, or lemon juice.
  • Potato Starch: Use 1 tablespoon of potato starch combined with 1 tablespoon of sour cream or vegetable oil and 1 tablespoon of water.
  • Dry Yeast: Dissolve 1/2 teaspoon of dry yeast in warm water as a replacement for one egg.

With these simple substitutions, you can continue cooking or baking without missing a beat, creating delicious results even in the absence of eggs!
