Scientists Identify a Habit That Makes Us Feel Tired Every Day

If you find yourself lacking energy at the start of the week, there are objective reasons behind it.

Many urban dwellers today suspect they suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome. Stress, pollution, and the fast pace of modern life make us feel drained as early as the beginning of the workday. However, according to scientists, we have the power to prevent this. Even in the hustle and bustle of a big city, it’s possible to maintain energy throughout the day. The key is to break the habits that sap our strength.

From the moment we wake up, modern individuals face dozens of decisions: what to eat for breakfast, what to wear, how to get to work. By the time the workday begins, most of us have already made so many choices that it’s no wonder we feel exhausted. According to researchers, this constant decision-making is one of the main causes of fatigue.

Scientists from the Paris Brain Institute in France have long studied the connection between everyday life and fatigue. Their goal was to determine what specifically causes mental exhaustion. Their findings reveal that it’s the endless series of small decisions that drain our energy.

According to the researchers, our brain cannot distinguish whether a decision is important or trivial. Unfortunately, convincing yourself that choosing your drink at a coffee shop is insignificant won’t help. The only solution is to make some decisions in advance.

To counteract this daily fatigue, try planning your morning in detail the night before: pick out your outfit, prepare breakfast ingredients, and map out your route to work. By being well-prepared, you’ll feel more relaxed at the start of your day, making it easier to conserve energy throughout the day—especially when you have a particularly demanding day ahead.

By minimizing the number of decisions you make in the morning, you can reduce mental fatigue and maintain energy levels longer. Pre-planning small tasks can make a big difference in how you feel throughout the day.
